David Stewart MBE, the former malt manager of the Speyside distillery, put this together from the Balvenie Stories range. Stewart’s groundbreaking work with cask finishing in the 1970s and 1980s served as the inspiration for this expression. Before being bottled at 43% ABV, The Creation of a Classic is first aged in ex-bourbon barrels and then for a spell in oloroso sherry barrels. This whisky is perfect for you if you enjoy the traditional smooth, fruity Balvenie character.
Tasting Notes
Nose: With layers of earthy, malty undertones reminiscent of Balvenie’s own barley loft, the smells are vibrant and aromatic, with layers of spice and vanilla reminiscent of dried clove and chai.
Palate: Delicate spice notes and a rich drying feeling from European oak are followed by a great compliment of light oatmeal syrupiness and brittle toffee.
Finish: Lingering, lasting dry oak.
