Product Notes
A premium white wine called Pikes Hills and Valleys Riesling is made from hand-picked grapes from South Australia’s Clare and Eden Valleys. With a hint of green, this delicate and elegant wine has a pale straw color and a bouquet of floral and citrus flavors. Juicy fruits like lime and granny smith apples are highlighted on the palate, along with hints of honey and delicate mineral and flint notes. With a well-balanced acidity, the crisp, clean, and lingering finish enables the wine to age nicely over time. Fresh salads, spicy seafood, and Asian-inspired cuisine pair beautifully with this Riesling.
Tasting Notes
The predominant scents are of delicious limes and stonefruit, with layers of complexity added by honeysuckle and lavender flowers. Vibrant lime and citrus fruits, delicate sweetness, and acidity akin to sherbet are all expertly matched. The background has a talc-like feel with hints of musk.
About the Winery
The Pike family’s patriarch at the time, Henry, left the English county of Dorsetshire. Along with Emma, his wife, and their four kids, he boarded the HMS Oaklands. They moved to the Adelaide Hills shortly after that. Henry was able to get work as a carpenter here. He never did, nevertheless, lose his passion for brewing. He picked up this technique from his mother when they lived in Dorset.
Henry’s employment at Johnstons Brewery in 1885 was made possible by his carpentry labor. He began to participate in the production of a few ales and beers, which he marketed under his own brand. The drinks quickly gained enormous popularity in the area. It made Henry even more determined to open his own unique winery. During the next forty years or more, it developed gloriously under the direction of Henry’s descendants.
According to Pikes, the best grapevines will always produce wines of the highest caliber. They therefore give their vineyards the utmost attention. When planting the vines, they prefer to plant them east-west. It keeps the grapes from becoming sunburned or losing their flavor by allowing them to absorb shade from the nearby canopies.
