Indri is a single malt whisky produced by Piccadily Distilleries (a subsidiary of Piccadily Agro Industries Limited) in northern India, from Rajasthan barley. The malted barley is distilled across three sites (in Indri, Haryana; Patiala, Punjab; and Bawal, also in Haryana) and aged in former wine and sherry and imported American oak barrels.
The whisky is then blended from across numerous batches by Master Blender, Surrinder Kumar. Kumar’s CV includes a major stint at pioneering Indian whisky producer, Amrut, where he was awarded India’s Distiller of the Year in 2011.
The Piccadily company produces a number of other whisky brands including fellow single malt Kamet and Whistler, a blended malt. The company has also produced a tiny run (nine cases) of Golden Wings whisky, of which little or none has been encountered in the open market. A number of Rum brands are also produced (including the recently-announced Camikara sugar cane rum).
In India, the likes of nationally-produced alcoholic beverage styles not traditionally seen in the country are known as Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL).
